Patarei is a 19th-century tsarist sea fortress on the Kalamaja shoreline that spent most of the 20th century as a prison. The east wing now hosts festivals, exhibitions and the occasional rave — there's nothing else like dancing inside fortress walls with the Baltic Sea 50 metres away.
