After the political crackdown in Belarus in 2020, a meaningful share of the country's electronic music producers relocated to Berlin. The Berlin DnB and techno scenes both gained from the influx.
The Belarusian scene background
Minsk had developed a small but serious electronic music scene through the 2010s. The DnB end of it was tied to specific clubs and a tight producer community. The 2020 political environment made continued public work impossible for many.
The Berlin landing
Belarusians who relocated typically went to Berlin first. The city has well-established Eastern European diaspora networks. Within 18 months several were holding studio residencies, playing club nights, releasing on European labels.
The Baltic ripple
Some of these producers tour to the Baltics regularly. SELECTA has booked a few in support slots. The cultural and linguistic affinity makes the Baltic-Berlin axis a natural touring corridor for them.
