Warehouse raves are different from club nights. The venue is not purpose-built. The temperature varies wildly between rooms. The floor is often unfinished concrete. People are dancing for 6+ hours. Here is what to wear so you do not regret it at 03:30.
Footwear: the most important call
Comfortable, closed-toe, broken-in. No new sneakers. No heels. No sandals or open shoes (someone will step on you and there will be broken glass somewhere). Old running shoes or skate shoes are ideal. Doc Martens work if they are broken in.
Top half: layers
A t-shirt under a hoodie under a jacket. You will be hot in the main room, cold in the corridors. Layering lets you adjust without leaving anything in the cloakroom. Avoid anything that absorbs sweat heavily (cotton holds water; technical fabric does not).
Bottom half: practical
Black jeans, joggers, or cargo pants. Black hides spills. Pockets are useful for keys, phone, earplugs. Avoid white anything: warehouse floors will destroy it in one night.
Things to carry
- Earplugs (see the previous post).
- Phone with the venue address pre-saved in offline maps.
- A 20-euro note for cloakroom plus drinks.
- Tissues. There are never enough in the bathroom.
- Spare hair tie if you have long hair.
What not to bring
- A bag larger than a fanny pack. It will be in your way for 6 hours.
- Anything you do not want stolen. Cloakroom is safer than your jacket pocket.
- A camera. Phone takes a photo if you really need one.
The afterthought
You will be sweaty when you leave. Have a clean shirt or hoodie in the cloakroom for the walk home. Future-you will thank present-you.
