Tipping DJs is awkward but not actually weird. The economics of working in this scene are tight enough that small gestures matter.
The drink-at-the-booth
The most common and welcome gesture. Buy a beer or water at the bar, drop it at the DJ booth between transitions. Do not stand there waiting for a thank-you. DJs notice. The bartender notices too.
The digital tip
Most working DJs have Revolut or PayPal. If you really loved a set, message them on Instagram and ask if you can transfer five or ten euros. They will say yes, surprised. Repeat business is built on these moments.
What not to do
Do not give a DJ cash mid-set. Do not buy them a drink containing alcohol if they are clearly avoiding it. Do not request tracks while handing over the tip. Read the room.
