Letta and Russian DnB Roots

7 Jul 2026·3 min read·by SELECTA crew

A short look at the Russian-speaking DnB scene that influenced modern Baltic taste before the recent diaspora wave.

Letta and Russian DnB Roots

Before the post-2022 diaspora, the Russian-speaking DnB scene had been quietly building since the 2000s. Producers like Letta (and the Pilot label crew around him) influenced a generation of listeners across the former Soviet space, including the Baltics.

The scene shape

Russian DnB was always smaller than the UK or Dutch scenes but disproportionately producer-heavy. Several Russian-speaking producers signed to European labels in the 2010s. The scene exported talent and imported almost no headliners.

The Baltic connection

Baltic DnB audiences in the 2010s included a significant Russian-speaking demographic. Russian-language DnB podcasts and mix uploads were a parallel discovery channel alongside the English-language UK podcast circuit. Two scenes shared an audience.

What changed in 2022

The post-2022 diaspora accelerated what was already happening: more Russian-speaking producers based in or touring through the Baltics. The Russian-speaking DnB community here grew. The continuity is real even as the geography shifted.
