Sub-Bass and the Baltic Soundsystem

28 May 2026·3 min read·by SELECTA crew

How Baltic venues approach low-end reinforcement. The rigs you will see at SELECTA nights, and why they matter.

Sub-Bass and the Baltic Soundsystem

Drum and bass lives or dies on the soundsystem. Most Baltic venues use one of three rig families: Funktion-One, L-Acoustics, or Void. Each has a different relationship to sub-bass, and that relationship changes what your night feels like.

Funktion-One

The classic UK choice. Tight punchy subs that hit you in the chest rather than smearing the room. Helitehas runs a Funktion-One rig. Most large SELECTA international bookings end up there for that reason.

L-Acoustics

More common in venues built for concerts than for clubs. Cleaner mid-range, slightly less aggressive sub. Better for liquid sets where the chord work needs space, less ideal for hard neuro.

Void

The horn-loaded Void rigs in smaller Baltic venues are loved by purists. They create a specific kind of dancefloor experience: warmer, more textured, less surgical. Cathouse uses Void cabinets. Half-step sets hit differently there.
