Spectrasoul (Jack Stevens and Dave Kennett) were the producers most associated with Med School, Hospital Records' sister label for the more experimental side. The records defined what "deep liquid" meant during the 2010s.

The sound

Spectrasoul tracks sit between liquid and minimal. Long pads, restrained drums, a focus on atmosphere over hooks. The records reward attention rather than demand it. Late-night listening music as much as dancefloor material.

The Med School identity

Med School existed to house the Hospital catalogue's left-field releases. Spectrasoul became the label's signature sound. When you said "Med School style", what you meant was usually a Spectrasoul-adjacent record.

Now

The duo is less active than during the peak Med School years but the records still circulate. The aesthetic they established lives on through newer producers working in the same deep-liquid territory.
