Optiv and BTK are Brazilian producers who became fixtures of the European techstep and neuro circuits in the late 2000s. Their collaborations defined a specific era of the sound and the Brazilian DnB pipeline has stayed productive ever since.
The releases
A run of joint EPs on Virus Recordings, Renegade Hardware, and later their own labels. The Optiv & BTK records were known for tight engineering and a slightly warmer texture than the Vienna and London neuro contemporaries. The geographical distance translated into a sonic identity.
The label work
BTK's Onset Audio label and Optiv's subsequent solo work both maintained the Brazilian-meets-European aesthetic. Younger Brazilian neuro producers came up through these label structures.
Now
Both still active. The Brazilian DnB scene continues to export talent disproportionate to the size of its domestic audience. Optiv and BTK helped establish the pipeline that producers like Audio (now a global headliner) eventually used.
