Your DJ name is the brand you will live with for years. Pick badly and you can rebrand, but rebranding costs you the audience you already built. Better to pick well the first time.
Search before you commit
Google your proposed name. Search Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Spotify, Instagram. If another DJ already has that name, you will spend your career being confused with them and losing search traffic to them. Pick something genuinely unfindable.
Pronounceable in multiple languages
You want bookers in Berlin, Vienna, Tokyo, Sao Paulo to be able to say your name. Avoid names with letters that do not exist in other alphabets. Avoid puns that only work in your native language.
Short
Two syllables or fewer is ideal. Bookers print it on posters. MCs shout it. It needs to fit on every visual without truncation. Calibre, Mefjus, Phace, Bou. The pattern is clear.
Avoid the obvious
Anything with "DJ" in it. Anything that references current internet slang that will date in two years. Anything that ends in a number. Try to imagine introducing yourself to a 50-year-old bar owner without embarrassment.
